This hearing comes on the heels of recent high-profile data breaches at Sony and Epsilon, which compromised the personal information of millions of Americans. Wednesday’s hearing will attempt to shed light on these events and address a number of data protection issues. American consumers deserve to know about the potential threats resulting from unauthorized access to personal information.

While most states have data breach requirements, there is currently no federal data breach notification law. Chairman Bono Mack has announced that she intends to introduce a data security bill later this year.
