At its upcoming May Open Meeting, the Federal Communications Commission is expected to vote on a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in which it will revisit the agency’s controversial 2015 decision to reclassify broadband Internet access as a common carrier “telecommunications” service under Title II of the Communications Act. In so doing, not only will numerous complex legal, economic and policy issues need to be carefully thought through, but the NPRM will no doubt re-kindle the nasty politics that have unfortunately characterized the net neutrality debate. To discuss these issues in detail, the Phoenix Center will be holding a one-hour “teleforum” with a panel of seasoned telecommunications experts on Wednesday May 17.
