Global Summit and Showcase for Mobile Applications and Services for Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities

The FCC will co-host the in cooperation with G3ict – the Global Initiative for Inclusive ICTs. The Summit will include a briefing session hosted at FCC headquarters as well as an industry conference and showcase organized by G3ict at the Gaylord National Convention Center in Washington D.C.’s National Harbor. The Summit will be entirely dedicated to reviewing how to best promote and implement accessible mobile communications and services for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski and International Telecommunication Union’s Secretary General Hamadoun Touré will be speakers at the Summit, alongside Mohammed Al Tarawneh, Inaugural Chairperson of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, as well as over 60 speakers among private sector leaders, mobile accessibility experts and disability advocates.

The Summit will offer you an opportunity to:

  • Learn from major mobile service providers how new mobile technologies and applications are helping to meet accessibility requirements for seniors and persons with disabilities
  • Learn how the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities can help to create a new global market opportunity
  • Meet with applications developers and innovators currently developing advanced mobile assistive solutions and services for seniors and persons with disabilities
  • Review the steps taken by leading public and private sector organizations to implement accessible mobile services for seniors and persons with disabilities
  • Review how mobile communications can best serve persons with disabilities for emergency response and disaster preparedness, travel and tourism, health services, education, independent living and mainstream commercial services
  • Learn how to develop accessible mobile web applications and services for seniors and persons with disabilities
