FCC Announces Vacancies in Membership of Intergovernmental Advisory Committee and Seeks Nominees

The Federal Communications Commission has expanded the membership of the Intergovernmental Advisory Committee (IAC) from 15 members to 30 members. By this Public Notice, the FCC seeks applications for membership to the IAC from local, state and Tribal government officials to fill the 15 new positions and also announces three additional vacancies in the existing IAC membership.

FCC approves CBS-Entercom Merger with conditions

The Federal Communications Commission's grant the Merger and Divestiture Applications subject to certain conditions, and also grant the associated waivers on a temporary basis. The proposed transaction encompasses all of Entercom’s 127 and CBS’s 117 radio stations. Pursuant to an Agreement and Plan of Merger: (1) CBS Radio (CBSR) will be separated from CBS pursuant to a Master Separations Agreement; and (2) a wholly owned subsidiary of Entercom (Constitution Merger Sub Corp.) will merge with CBSR, with the merged CBSR surviving as a wholly owned subsidiary of Entercom.

FCC Facilitates Review of Restoring Internet Freedom Record

The Federal Communications Commission’s Restoring Internet Freedom Notice of Proposed Rulemaking has generated an unprecedented number of comments, reply comments, ex parte filings, and other filings in the official record of the proceeding. To facilitate a review of the record, WC Docket No. 17-108, the FCC is making all filings submitted as of November 3, 2017 available via download. Parties interested in exploring the docket are encouraged to use these downloads. These downloads contain a complete set of filings submitted as of November 3, 2017.

FCC Launches Review of Media Regulations

The Federal Communications Commission issued a Public Notice that begins a review of its rules applicable to media entities, including broadcasters, cable operators, and satellite television providers. The FCC’s action invites public comment on which media rules should be modified or eliminated as unnecessary or burdensome.

Through this review, the FCC seeks to reduce regulations that can stand in the way of competition, innovation, and investment in the media marketplace. The Commission also seeks input regarding specific rules from which small businesses should receive regulatory relief. Today’s media entities are subject to a multitude of regulations, many of which are decades old.

Public Notice on Filing Comments on Advanced Methods to Target Robocalls

On March 23, 2017, the Federal Communications Commission adopted a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking and Notice of Inquiry that begins a process to facilitate voice service providers’ blocking of illegal robocalls by proposing rules to expressly authorize blocking of certain categories of calls by providers and inquiring into further options for blocking. The Robocall Blocking NPRM/NOI set deadlines for filing comments and reply comments at 45 and 75 days after publication in the Federal Register, respectively. On May 17, 2017, a summary of the Robocall Blocking NPRM/NOI was published in the Federal Register. Accordingly, comments will be due on or before July 3, 2017, and reply comments will be due on or before July 31, 2017.
